What is Gluten?

What is Gluten?

Gluten is a protein found in wheat, barley, rye, and triticale (a cross between wheat and rye). It provides structure and elasticity in foods. Individuals with celiac disease or gluten intolerance will experience gastro-intestinal distress from gluten consumption.

Green Chef is the first meal kit company to receive Gluten-Free Food Service Validation through the Gluten Intolerance Group’s Gluten-Free Food Service program.

This validation ensures that every ingredient included in a Gluten-Free recipe contains 10 ppm (parts per million) or less of gluten, which is deemed appropriate for consumption for individuals with celiac disease or gluten sensitivities.

Dairy Free

Dairy Free

Our Dairy Free recipe tag is an easy way to ensure there are no milk allergens included in your recipes. These recipes feature a variety of meals that are free of dairy-containing ingredients, such as milk, butter, or cheese.
Low Added Sugar

Low Added Sugar

One key recommendation from the 2020-2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans emphasized limiting added sugar intake to less than 10% of total calories (50g added sugars or ~12 tsp) per day.¹

For reference, one 12-oz can of cola soda contains
an average of ~10 tsp of added sugar.

Recipes marked with the Low Added Sugar tag are developed to provide 2.5g or less of added sugar per serving. That’s 5% DV or less!
Limiting added sugar intake is part of a broader approach to promoting long-term health and may reduce the risk of chronic diseases associated with excessive added sugar consumption.²
